Fun enough for grandma
I bought this for my 94 year old grandmother to keep her company after remembering that she grew up with cats. I was a bit skeptical, having two (real) cats of my own, but decided to give it a shot.
FAMILY RATINGS:
- Grandma (4 stars): It took her a couple of hours to get used to it (she's not at all tech savvy and a moving toy freaked her out), but it's been a couple of weeks and "Kitty" (creative, I know) is still hanging out with her. Like one of the previous reviews also mentioned, she is well aware that it's not a real cat, but she plays and talks with it almost as if it were real.
- Mom (4 stars): She thinks it's cute and enjoys playing with it... possibly a little more than my grandma since she better understands the logic behind its movements.
- Me (2.5 stars): If I had purchased this for myself, I would have returned it (Reminder: I have 2 real, live cats to cuddle with at my leisure so this machine just doesn't compare). But, as a gift for my grandmother, it's really comforting to know that she has something nice to interact with when no one else is home.
- My cats (see video - haha)
PROS:
- Fur is soft, almost life-like
- Meowing sounds are cute, though slightly comical
- Purring sound and vibrations are surprisingly nice
- No need for food, water, poop scooping... or band aids :)
CONS:
- Whirring sounds during movements are really audible (you'll never forget it's a machine)
- Occasional spastic movements with annoyingly loud clicking
- As mentioned in one of the first comments, there is a bit of Satan in this cat. Just don't let its "sigh" catch you off guard in a dimly lit room while you're alone. It still creeps me out.
OTHER COMMENTS:
- I wish there was a better range of movement (i.e. when it "rolls back") and had more padding to make the toy feel more realistic
- The toy's sensors are light activated. If there isn't a source of light coming from your direction, the cat won't notice your movement and react accordingly.
