An amazing device, if you know its limitations
This is wonderful little device! I am a grad student who has to consume a lot of journal articles and books. I love that the Onyx Boox tablets are running Android so that I can install and use many of the apps in the Google Play Store. The Note Air itself is beautiful (in shape, size, and color) and feels good to hold even one-handed. This really is the flagship device of Onyx, even with the more expensive Max Lumi. I think that most of the precision, research, and engineering went into creating the Note Air, and it shows!
The built-in NeoReader app is great at handling PDFs and EPUBs and whatever else I need reading on it. The letters are crisp and the LED lights are great for reading both during the day and the night. I haven't had this device long enough to install and use Microsoft Word, but I don't think it'll be much of a problem (as long as you're not expecting iPad or computer typing speeds).
THREE things I do want to tell people who are buying this device:
1) DO NOT use the provided screen protector. I installed it temporarily (I have screen protectors on all my devices), and it does not install without bubbles. I've bought a plastic screen protector for the iPad 12.9" so that I can cut it to fit the Onyx Note Air. Now that I've removed the Onyx screen protector, there are weird stain(?) marks that show exactly where the bubbles used to be when I wipe the screen with a wet cloth. No, the "stains" don't affect viewing at all when the screen is dry, but they only show up when I wipe with a wet cloth. I'm guessing that the glue of the screen protector leaves some sort of residue.
2) Buy a different stylus. I cannot recommend this enough!! I bought a Staedtler Noris Digital Stylus, and the writing experience is not as squeaky and feels worlds better! As someone who owns an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil 2, I really value a good writing/drawing experience. The Staedtler stylus makes things so much more pleasant to use the Note Air, so much so that I find myself picking up the device more--and in the end, that's all you can ask for!
3) If you're looking for a good carrying case, I bought the MoKo 11-inch Felt Tablet Sleeve ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083B6X1X4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). The width of the Note Air is a bit unique, but this carrying sleeve fits the Note Air perfectly in width (even though there is much room to spare length-wise), with the added bonus of being able to carry around extra accessories in the pocket.
So I'm rating this tablet 4 stars because a device that costs almost $500 dollars will need a bit of extras and pre-caution in order to make it a truly GREAT device. Cheers!
