Standing on the balance ...
For the past seven weeks, in an attempt to fight the less flattering effects of advancing years, I have been following a Low Carb High Fat diet, . Being an engineer I want data and graphs, so I have been tracking my progress on my faithful 12-year-old Taylor digital. The short story there is all good news, down 15 pounds so far. A week ago I went to the doctor for an annual blood test and physical check. Lo and behold, the office scales place me a good five pounds *lighter* than I weighed at home! A welcome result, it is true, but startling. My faithful Taylor is clearly not as faithful as I thought. I tried weighing myself at a variety of other places and found the outcome the same, I had been lied to. After a quick search on Amazon I choose the Eatsmart Precision Plus scale to replace the disgraced Taylor. It arrived very carefully packed with styrofoam corner supports in easy-to-remove packaging. The included batteries popped right in and a subsequent test reproduced the results encountered everywhere else. The device itself is both massive and sleek. Let me explain. The surface upon which you stand is glass, with two silver trim pieces on the sides. The amount of foot space available is very comfortable, even for a 6 foot 1 inch guy like me. There is no feeling of having to balance oneself on the scale. That is the massive bit. It is sleek in that the clear glass top, the metallic side bars and the overall thinness of the unit present a pleasing aspect sitting on the floor. It is there, it is usable, it is attractive, but it is not "in the way". I appreciate the clean design very much. However, one does not buy a scale for its looks, you buy it to weigh yourself. In this regard the Eatsmart Precision Plus performs just as well as it appears. Double-checked against physicians balance scales, it agrees with their results. Repeated weighings show no change in the value. The unit self-calibrates on first use, and needs no special bump or touch to turn on. The digits are large, clear and very nicely backlit in blue. The weight reading blinks when it has been fully determined, and then remains on for a comfortable period of time even after you step off the scale. All in all, a great purchase and a nice piece of equipment to have.
