All right people. Let me explain this to you. I ordered this to transplant some house plants. My super helpful husband took it out of the box and took it to the garage when it got here. After asking for it for several weekends so I could transplant my plants, he took the flower pots to the garage and brought them back full of the expand and grow. I never read the instructions because my "helpful husband" refused to bring the bag to me because it might get messy. I put my plants in and gave them a good watering. After a couple of hours, I walked into the kitchen and the dirt was already an inch over the top of the pots... And it kept growing. Not the plants, they were pushed completely out. It was the soil getting taller and taller. I stood there and watched this happen. Use my experience when purchasing this,"Expand "n Grow". Let your "helpful husband" put away something else. Or at least read the bag before it is whisked away to the garage. Leave a couple of inches of pot height. You can always add more after watering.
