I don't know why Amazon is promoting this product as "Curl & Hold". It is a bit misleading and confusing, IT IS NOT INTENDED FOR HOLD. Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is an EXCELLENT creme hair dress and conditioner--think Vitapointe or Liv kicked up a dozen notches just for curls. No mineral oil, petroleum and beeswax--Shea, coconut , mango, aloe silk protein instead! This product is best used just as you would a creme hairdressing. I use this in the same may my mother used Liv on my hair when I was little for braids/braid-outs, finger curls, twist/twist-outs and smoothing ponytails. It works great as a layer on wet hair. Use it after your leave-in conditioner and before your sealing oil. You only need a tiny bit for shine, moisture and de-frizzing . I tap my finger lightly into the product for each braid, twist etc. and take a little more only if I need it. Again, do not expect hold from this product! I DO NOT use it to set my "wash and go". Curl Enhancing Smoothie is not intended to perform like an Eco Styler Gel or Kinky Curly Curling Custard. On the other hand, because the product hydrates curls, it is great for finishing your "wash and go" or "rod set" after it dries. It's also great for refreshing second day hair because it helps curls to spring back and smoothes frizz. My best advice for using Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is use it to do what it's supposed to do. When I first started wearing my natural curls, I'd read the product description instead of the ingredients. If you read the ingredients below you'll see that it is water and Shea butter, not gel. Use it like you would water and Shea. With that said, this stuff is THE BEST CREME HAIRDRESS I HAVE EVER USED. Usually my hair is very dry. Straight Shea butter is way too heavy for me. With this, my hair is softer than with any other product WITHOUT making it flat and greasy.
