Homosexual literature? More please!
Thank goodness there’s a queer offering this month for Amazon First Reads. I’ve been so sick of the same cis-het offerings month after month. Queer folk have existed forever and our stories matter. **I have now read the book and modified my rating to only 4 stars. It was a simple story, easy to read, and it was fairly chaste. No gratuitous sex scenes here. It’s laughable to me that some of the reviews are appalled by the subject matter when there is so little actually going on beyond two women falling in love. Oh the horrors of humans finding strength and solace in one another. There should be more moral outrage about the backdrop of slavery and racism the US was built upon. I actually found the author’s notes and acknowledgments at the end as interesting, if not moreso, than the story she presented. I’m not enamored of the writing, but a big thanks to Amazon for including this in the First Reads offerings. I hope to see more such offerings in the future.
