My daughter is a catcher on a competitive softball team and this gets her white uniform pants clean! In my laundry sink, I filled a bucket with a little water and get the pants wet and that rinse the loose dirt off. Then I basically rubbed the bar on the pants (like you would a bar of soap and a wash cloth) until the pants are full of soap foam. Then I looked the pants over for more set in stains and then rubbing the pants together and worked those out. I then threw them in the washer on heavy wash with a just a little bleach (you could use a your favorite white brightened) These pants took about 10 minutes.
