I live in NW Alaska, and have been invaded by red-backed voles, which mowed 3/4 of my small lawn under the winter snow, ate freely from my greenhouse all summer, and have eaten their way through my limited flowerbeds. I've tried several different types of traps and THESE ARE THE BEST! So easy to bait, set and dispose of the dead voles. Most importantly, they are a quick-kill trap, designed to lure the animal's head in under the bar before it snaps. I've used several typical types from my local hardware store, and then ordered four Victor M038 Easy Set Mouse Traps from Amazon. These were effective but they are designed to snap when an animal walks across them, catching them on the leg or shoulder and not killing them instantly. (I know - I saw them thrashing around and had to stomp on their heads to end their lives quickly.) Much as I don't like it I need to kill these voles, but I'd still rather do it humanely. These traps are as close as I can get to a swift death. In two days I've trapped 14. Of those only one was caught by the foot. The rest went in head first and died fast. I definitely recommend these traps.
