I think that it's best for quick use on knives that you "use", utilitarian. This sharpener for 15 degree edges... not the European 20 degree edges, unless you want to convert them to 15 degree, in which it is very capable of doing it. It is not good for knives that you actually "love". It sharpens really well and give you as good an edge as you would have used a whetstone, but it is not precise of the insertion point. So it is impossible to cosmetically retain the exact shape of your knives. I would recommend this only if you just want a really sharp edge but not for knives that you actually wanted to "baby", like a Shun or a nice hand-forge treasure.
