Just what I needed
I've struggled for years trying to keep my hardwood floors clean. Because I live near a freeway and urban area, sooty dust gets inside and settles into the hardwood. Walk barefoot and your feet are grimed. It's very difficult to get the footsies clean if sooty dust gets on them. Tried both dry and wet swiffer, but they didn't cut it. My daily routine has been to sweep the floor twice a day then damp wipe/scrub it with paper towels. I found I had to go over some patches of flooring 4-5 times before the towel was only picking up light brown instead of black. Yeow...what a lot of time and paper towels for basic floor maintenance!
Yesterday I bought this mop and some refills at HD. Soon as I got home, I tried it. Oh my gosh, it worked great! As an extra bonus, it easily reaches under and behind furniture. Dang, I'm impressed! It's fast and easy too -- especially compared to hands and knees scrubbing with paper towels. I did the entire floor in about 15 minutes, cutting my 30-minute chore time in half. Plus I wasn't exhausted afterwards.
Floor looks great and the foot test is comparable to what I'd have after hand scrubbing. It's actually better because the hard-to-reach areas I often skipped when hand-scrubbing are just as well cleaned as the main traffic pathways. I plan to buy more refills today as I can tell this will become my daily mop of choice.
In response to negative reviews that said the mop flips when you don't want it do, that did not happen to me. In fact I found it very easy to control. I like very much that it rotates lengthwise to reach narrow strips of flooring and goes all the way flat to get deep under furniture with low clearance. The way I used it was to start with a completely dry mop (don't dampen the "wet" side). I dry mopped the whole floor with the fingery dry-mop side. Didn't flip even once. Then I removed the fabric, thoroughly rinsed it in the bathtub with warm water, hand-wrung it dry, put it back on the mop, and wet mopped the entire floor. Again, it did not flip on me. Rinsed it again after use and left to dry. Might also be how I mop. I don't swing the mop out far away from my body. I push out and pull back, maintaining downward pressure when pushing the mop out, then releasing the pressure when sliding it back towards me. That not only cleans better, it also makes mops more controllable in general.
