Pay attention and know what you are buying.
This cable has a usb type c connector on both ends. This is nice because this connector can be inserted without having to worry about its orientation. Just get it lined up with the port and push. It works. It also supports fast or quick charging (15W @ 5V, 3A). Note that not all devices with fast charge at these settings, but it is is probably fine for many phones. It is also usb 2.0 and supports data transfers at 480Mb/s. These days, this is a pretty low spec, though, and many new devices operate at must faster data rates.
This cable is well made and even looks nice (why I bought it over those ugly cables).
What this is not is usb 3.0 gen 1 or gen 2 cable. Hence, it does not support either 5 Gb/s (5Gbps) or 10 GB/s (10Gbps) or even 20 Gb/s (20Gbps). It is not a Thunderbolt 3 cable so you cannot drive a monitor with this cable. It looks exact like these other cables which support must faster data transfer rates, but it only transfers at usb 2.0 speeds (480Mb/s) so it is slow by comparison. Don't use this for your data transfers to hard drives or especially SSD drives if you want the faster speeds. If your new laptop came with a fancy usb type c port that promises Thunderbolt 3 transfers speeds, or usb 3.1 gen 2 transfer speeds, or even usb 3.1 gen 1 transfer speeds, don't get this cable for this device. It will not provide the speeds that these other ports can deliver, thus giving you must slower data transfer rates than what your device is capable of, and what you paid your money for. While this certainly seems obvious on the face of it, one typically tends to forget these details months after you make a purchase and decide you want to get a new cable.
This is a perfectly fine cable for the its intended purpose.
