So, here’s my story. I’m in my 60’s. When I was 8 years old, I was blessed with knowing an old lady that, as a child, had come west in a covered wagon. She would bake “raised sugar cookies” for our family. I’d never had anything like them before or since. I love Pinterest, but even they, never had a recipe for these cookies. I tried everything throughout the years: yeast, buttermilk, baking mix, etc. Nothing was even close. Then, last week, as my sister and I were talking about Mauney and her amazing cookies, it hit me. SOURDOUGH! It made perfect sense! Pioneers didn’t have packaged yeast- they used sourdough. While still talking with my sister, I looked at Pinterest, and there were recipes for sourdough sugar cookies. Then, I found a recipe ( there are quite a few) for sourdough starter. I bought these jars from Amazon, and today, day 3 of creating my starter, it’s going perfectly. The second jar will be used to gift my daughter with sourdough starter, along with a couple recipes—- the most important one will be sourdough sugar cookies.
