Got this for my eldest son's birthday. Funny thing is, as I was clicking to order it, his two brothers and I were crowded around my computer when the eldest walked in with a mug of... you guessed it, tea. When he opened the package a few days later and saw the teapot and selection of specialty teas, the beaming smile was almost enough to be worth the cost. The fact that one week later he is STILL beaming and the sound of the Pykal tea kettle has become quite familiar throughout the house since it is heard multiple times a day (and night) is great. Even better is the fact that he is enjoying healthier teas much more often, has reduced his intake of soft drinks to an almost non-existent level, and has stopped letting water boil away to nothing in pans before remembering he was trying to make a cup of tea. The sound is loud and clear enough to be heard from the kitchen to his bedroom, on the other end of the house, but not so overwhelmingly loud or annoyingly pitched that it disturbs me in my bedroom, which shares a wall with the kitchen kitchen. He loves it already and offers to make tea forth whole family constantly. Great product and with only a week in use, the value has far surpassed the cost already.
