It's not Rocket Science or Brain Surgery -- It's Just a Space Heater...
Early last Fall (2015) we moved from NE Florida to N. Virginia and we were warned that the gas furnaces in this house would not be able to keep up with the cold during the Winter. I think I read all the professional and customer reviews for just about every larger space heater on the market. Needless to say, my head hurt afterward. All this blah blah blah about kilowatts per hour, quartz elements, infrared, forced air, etc. For crying out loud, I just wanted/needed a space heater -- not debate the laws of thermodynamics. I quickly noticed that whether you buy a heater as small as this Dr. Heater model or one as big as fireplace, you still limited with just 1500 watts, so why get some monstrosity that takes over an entire room when this works just as well? And it does work well. I'm a career network engineer, so I'm a pretty techie kind of guy, I've had to arrange for power for large computer operation facilities, etc. People, it's just a space heater. Find one with good, reliable reviews, buy it, plug it in, and use it. If, like me, you're needing to supplement a whole-house furnace with space heaters, then are you really worrying about how much electricity they're using? Plus, the amount of $ you're saving on gas or electricity from helping the whole-house furnace more than compensates for the amount of electricity the space heater is using. Now, as for this particular heater... It's excellent! It works exceptionally well to heat our rather large finished basement. Usually when I go down there the temperature is around 60 degrees even though the whole-house furnace thermostat is set at 75 degrees. Within about 20 minutes of running this heater, the basement is at 75 degrees. So, I don't care whether it's quartz, infrared, how electricity it's using, or whether or not Dr. Heater is exaggerating the performance of their product, or whatever -- it heats, it works. The fan is fairly quiet, but it is noticeable. It's quieter than the blower on my gas fireplace as well as the fan on my electric oven. The remote control is nice and works from all the way across the room. It's not very heavy so I don't know why it has casters on it, but I guess they make it easier to move for changing direction of the air flow or whatever. It's not hideously ugly and not exactly beautiful. It's a heater. It heats very well. I'm very happy. I actually just ordered a second one to help with cold spots in other areas of the house (like the two-story entry area of the house). And now I don't have to worry about anything to do with heaters and can move on to other more important things in my life (like some of the other reviewers here clearly need to do as well).
