Great product, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!
I was hesitant at first to buy this product due to all of the pics showing quite a mess and a lot of frustration. But I decided to go for it anyway. I thoroughly read the instructions and followed the tips by reviews from people who had success with this product. There is also a section in the instruction booklet called "Tips and Hints", THIS IS A MUST READ SECTION!!! I had a dozen eggs and tested hard boiled (9 eggs), poached (2 eggs), and omelette (1 egg). See pictures for hard boiled eggs. Only one egg had a minor leak at the top. Use caution when piercing the top of the egg, if I made the egg crack down the side, I saved it to use for testing the poaching and omelette trays. Not sure if that makes a difference, but I'd rather be overly cautious. THE TOP OF THE EGG IS NOT THE NARROW/POINTED END! THE TOP OF THE EGG IS THE END FACING UP WHEN YOU FIRST OPEN THE EGG CARTON! A couple other helpful points (other than identifying which end is the "top" of the egg) that are found in the instruction booklet are: - - The water breaker gives 2 lines for each cooking method, this is your water fill RANGE. Fill to the middle of the range for your first time, then fill slightly more or less (staying within the range) based on whether you want them cooked longer (fill more water) or cooked less (fill less water). - - there will be mineral deposits in the base after the water evaporates. Use distilled water for cooking in order to minimize this. After each use, let the base cool, then use a damp paper towel (& a little white vinegar if you have it) to wipe the mineral deposits off the base. Be careful not to burn your hand if you choose to wipe it out before the base cools completely. I didn't take pictures of the 2 poached eggs, because my husband was too excited to eat them. The poaching tray has 4 compartments (1 egg per compartment). For this first run, I filled the beaker to the middle of the poached range, but it could've used a little more time (in my opinion) so I will fill water to top of the range next time. I forgot to lightly coat the poaching tray with butter before cooking, and the eggs definitely stuck to the tray. REMEMBER TO USE COOKING SPRAY OR BUTTER BEFORE COOKING IN THE POACHING & OMELETTE TRAYS. This makes cleanup soooo much easier. See before & after pics of cooking one egg with cheese in the omelette tray. I remembered to line the tray with a little butter and the cooked omelette slid right out of the tray. Since the omelette tray is designed for 3 eggs and I only had one left to use, I filled the beaker to halfway between the poached and omelette lines, this gave me the perfect result! I hope my review helps others to troubleshoot issues they've experienced and enjoy using this product as much as I plan to!
