This is a very user-friendly thermometer. User interface is clean and simple. The screen is appropriately sized. You do need to prepare your own two regular AAA batteries (non-rechargeable) though. Once the batteries are inserted and trigger is pressed, it's ready to use. Point the device 2-3 inch away from the subject's forehead and press the trigger once. This gives you the temperature reading within a second. There are 3 distinct LCD colors for the screen to indicate the temperature range. This is a visual aide for you to quickly know if the temperature is out of normal range. The thermometer features a 30-second auto-shutoff to save battery life. This is a very welcome feature. You can also switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit reading. The instruction manual is quite useful if you need further information about the device, including technical specifications. It measures infrared radiations from a person or an object to determine temperature. Therefore the readings may not exactly match what you get from a traditional slow mercury-based thermometer but should be close enough. Plus, mercury-based thermometers are measuring temperature in an armpit so it's not a fair comparison anyway. As the manual suggests, you can take consecutive 3 readings to determine the more reliable temperature. All in all, It is a fast and very usable device.
