SMALL LOOP IS NOT FOR THE TAIL!! Loops adjust bigger.
My only regret is that I didn't purchase this item sooner!!
This has made the job (CHORE) of grooming my antsy Shih Tzu 10 times easier. No more pleading with him and holding his butt up by his tail to trim his belly! No more worries about bites when I trim his back nails! (Well, not NONE...he can still be a little contortionist...but 90% less worries). ;-)
After reading some reviews of this thing, one thing people need to realize -- the end that is SMALL when it arrives in the mail is actually the NECK end -- you press down and adjust the plastic thing on the loop to make it bigger. The bigger end (with two rubber tubes) goes around the HAUNCHES (lower belly) -- again, press down and adjust the loop to make it MUCH BIGGER.
You need to make both loops much bigger, and then put the dog into it, and then tighten them so they are snug enough to hold doggy firmly (but not too tight).
Do NOT try to put the small loop around the dog's tail! The small loop gets adjusted bigger and goes around the neck where his collar normally goes. Both ends are fully adjustable, so you should never have to shove any of your dog's body parts through the loops.
Just look at the picture that comes with it, and you'll see what I mean.
