Picky Fruit Flies
For this and similar products, some reviewers complain that the trap is ineffective in catching flies. I think the main variant is the type of apple cider vinegar used. When I first put out the trap, it caught lots of flies over a period of about 10 day, but after cleaning and refilling it, it caught only one fly in two weeks. It turns out that the critical factor is the kind of apple cider vinegar used. The first time I used an organic unfiltered product. Seeing no reason to waste money on expensive vinegar, I used a cheap, super-market brand of filtered apple cider vinegar for the refill. Yesterday I refilled it again, going back to the organic unfiltered stuff, and not it's catching lots of flies gain. It seems that fruit flies have gourmet tastes when it comes to apple cider vinegar.
