Exceeds expectations for a GREAT price-point!
Based on the lack of reviews, I feel compelled to do a review. I hardly do these, but this would have been helpful when I was at Target on my smartphone deciding on which iron to buy. I shop Amazon a lot, and even if I'm buying from a brick-and-mortar store, I search reviews in Amazon and elsewhere... so here we go.
Just like many consumers who debate whether the "you get what you pay for" applies to irons, I almost convinced myself to pay $50 to $100 on a top-brand iron (that will go un-named). I mean, how often do you actually buy an iron? Thought I'd pony-up and buy something that will last. Well, after some research and seeing the great reviews from this unit's sibling, the GCSBSP-201, I thought I'd give this one a shot since it almost had identical features other than a slight weight difference, color, and soleplate. Glad I went the cheaper route because being a guy, I REALLY LIKE this black colored one and it was definitely friendly on the wallet.
That being said, I ironed about 20 pieces of clothing and this thing is FANTASTIC! I mean, it blows me away on how much steam this produces, which really equates to effectiveness in ironing-out wrinkles. Not only that, but it heats up fast, the handle (despite the other review saying so) does NOT get hot (maybe warm at best), and makes an audible sound when it's ready after being plugged in. There's also a LED light to let you know it's powered-on. It changes color from red to green, depending if it's heating-up. The steam blast and water sprayer work flawlessly. There's no leaks so far! Other than that, it has a good weight to it (just right IMO). Also has all the nice safety features so you're less likely to burn your house down.
The wind-up feature works OK... it could be better in that I mean it would be nice if you just hit the button and it winds-up, every time. However, this is not the case and you have to develop a technique to do it properly. First off, mine had a little orange tape when you pulled out the cord to let you know, don't pull it out beyond this point. This helps give you enough slack to help you retract the cord back in. Technique is applied here: you just need to tug and let go while holding the wind-up button down. You have to play with it a bit (i.e. pull, let go, pull, let go... keep that button pressed) to get it to retract the cord. It's not perfect, but then again, this wasn't expensive and it works -- resulting in putting the iron away neatly. I just hope that the spring mechanism that powers the retraction withstands the test of time.
Only CON, which doesn't bother me, is that the settings are a tad hard to see. But I sort of leave it on a setting, set it and forget it, and hardly change it.
Overall, this is truly a GOOD BUY = good price, known brand, feature packed, no-leaks, safety features, and good warranty.
