Y'all, I want to cry as I write this. Sarah Bessey has curated a masterpiece. My faith is hit or miss. It's often best described as "reverent agnosticism" (thank you to Pastor Stan Mitchell for that phrasing). This book meets me where I am. I didn't know what to expect- poetry, essays, liturgies. Well, it's all of those and more. It's like being welcomed into a prayer circle of my youth but with women who have questions and doubts and anger. These women have opened their hearts and created space for us to join in their authenticity. I know that word is often used in accidental irony, to hide reality behind appearances, especially in spiritual circles. But this book is real. It's the Velveteen Rabbit; the more we open our hearts to it, the more real it is.
