Understanding Black & Decker 20V Lithium Batteries
First, I am not an expert on batteries. But, I do possess an investigative nature stemming from my line of work. So as of this writing, let me share my findings based upon my investigation into the Black & Decker 20v Lithium battery line. The newer LBXR20 is a 1.5 Ah battery. The LBXR2020 is a 2.0 Ah battery, and the LB2X4020-OPE is a 4.0 Ah battery (basically a piggy-backed LBXR2020). The first B&D 20v Lithium batteries (LB20 before 2012?) were, as far as I can tell, generally something less than 1.5 Ah with disappointing run time. Different B&D 20v tools will come with different 20v Lithium batteries. Example: I purchased a LST300 Weed Trimmer that had the LBXR20 1.5 Ah battery. Before I used it, I noticed a sale on the LCC300 Combo, which not only had the LST300 Trimmer, but also the Blower for the same money and had the LBXR2020 2.0 Ah battery. I returned the single Trimmer and bought the Combo. So, it would seem different single tools or combo packs will likely come with different 20v Lithium batteries, or multiples thereof. No 2 people will achieve the same battery usage per charge given the same task with the same tool(s). We walk/move at different speeds. Some people will prefer to have one battery that lasts twice as long, and others would prefer to have the flexibility of 2 batteries that have half the run time (one on the charger while using the other). Different strokes for different folks, and different use requirements. I have one LBXR20 battery and one LBXR2020 battery. I have a smaller rural yard in a planned community, with about 250 lineal feet of edging/trimming around the perimeter. I use the LBXR2020 battery for the trimmer and is more than adequate to complete the task in about 15 to 20 minutes of run time and the battery is not yet expired. I then put it on the charger and use the LBXR20 battery for the blower for about 15 minutes or so, and it is not depleted before I recharge. Lastly, if you have a large task to perform that will require a long run time and you don't want to have to stop and change batteries, then by all means I would get the LB2X4020-OPE 4.0 Ah battery. Hope this helps and by all means, this analysis is open to criticism, correction and comment.
