Worth it even in the age of online recipes
I cook and use recipes several times a week, but I don't buy many cookbooks. There are so many recipes online that I find most recipe books to be unnecessary. For that matter, Hank Shaw's website is a good source.
I bought this book on a whim, as I cook a lot of fish and frequent Mr. Shaw's website. I'm glad I did. It is page after page of recipes that are simple enough to make at home but result in restaurant-quality meals. Also has lots of helpful information that will make me a better cook when I want to make something up on my own. And the writing is excellent.
This book will certainly appeal to people who fish, but the vast majority of recipes can be made with fish or shellfish you can buy at the local grocery or fish market.
The James Beard folks need to add this to their list.
