Excellent price to performance ratio
Although I would have preferred to use a MERV 7 or 8 pleated filter for better filtration performance, I had to choose this filter with a lower MERV 4 rating due to the limitations of my high efficiency furnace, as the reduced airflow trips a limit on my furnace, and eventually causing parts to fail. You should always consult the owner's manual or specifications for your furnace, or call the manufacturer or your HVAC technician to check the type filter and MERV rating for your specific furnace. In my case, I have a Luxaire Acclimate series furnace from Johnson Controls that cannot handle anything higher than MERV 7. Unless you suffer from terrible allergies or affected by low-immunity issues, this filter is great for the price. The frame is sturdy and the metal retainer mesh is doing a good job to prevent the filter from collapsing. I have seen more expensive pleated filters to collapse, specially when then tend to get dirty and diminish the airflow. Compared to pleated filters that are more expensive and require to be replaced more often, this type of inexpensive spun fiberglass does a good job for the price at filtering. I perform a monthly visual check of the filter, they typically last 3 months, enough to get through an average heating or cooling season. Your mileage may vary. I recommend this spun fiberglass filter based on cost compared to its features such as sturdiness, adequate performance and providing the needed protection to the furnace.
