Excellent quality and features with some minor negatives
I bought these for our 9 and 6 year old sons. They've been having an absolute blast. We also tried ArmoGear and Nerf Laser Ops but everyone preferred this set hands down.
Things we like:
- The guns are fantastic. The size, quality, and overall feel are excellent. They don't feel cheap. They are thinner than the other sets and just feel really good in your hands.
- The sounds effects are very good
- The LCD makes it easy to see exactly how much health you have (even young kids)
- Nice to be able to change the amount of health each player has (e.g., can give younger players a slight advantage)
- Not having to swap batteries is huge (other sets had to be unscrewed, then swap batteries, then screw back in... not fun doing it 8 times for the guns and vests).
- The charging stand works well to both charge and keep everything organized.
- The reload button is perfectly placed and easy to use
Things we don't like:
- The gun should have a sensor on it. Our boys just turn their bodies sideways while shooting so you can't see the vest. This is a pretty big flaw that led me to try other options (which sadly had bigger flaws, so we stuck with these)
Things that could be improved:
- After each game, you have to turn everything off, re pair, select lives, and choose a team. There should've been a quicker way to just reset health with the same settings.
- It's near impossible to know when you hit someone. The vest flashes and vibrates, but it would've been good to have a sound effect ("You're hit!") or something similar.
- The price is steep compared to other sets, so we may not be able to get other friends to buy the same set to have larger games
