A serious filter in a serious environment.
I needed something that would weed out viruses as well as debris while I was traveling and working in Peru. The thought of being able to drink from any water source sounded like a pipe dream, until now.
First off, I decided to go with this filter based off my experience with their support staff. I asked some pretty solid questions since I wanted to make sure (like 100% sure) that this would work for me as it's going to be directly pumping into my innards and all. I didn't just want a filter, I wanted something that would purify the water from viruses and guarantee as much as possible that I wouldn't be ingesting any more baddies. I heard back the same day (just an hour or so later actually) from their support team and we passed a volley of emails across which helped answer not only my questions but also gave me a lot of new insights about the nature of the stomach issues I had experienced previously while in Peru. They definitely know their stuff.
More importantly, their support staff wanted to ensure that I would be getting the right product I needed even more than selling me one of theirs. Ironically, this is what sold me immediately. Their sincerity is something special.
Secondly, I'm giving it an absolute thorough field test here in Peru. After receiving it I only had time to read the manual and run some regular tap water through to make sure I knew how to clean it and immediately enjoyed its simplicity as well as the taste from my regular water source at home. I would be flying out in two days to Pucallpa, Peru inside the very humid Amazon basin where I've previously suffered many a few nights of stomach gut-wrenching episodes already. Here in Peru there's really not much of an option other than buying a lot of plastic water bottles and well, they don't exactly recycle here so that sucks.
Since having it along (two weeks), I've filtered out 70+ liters of tap water (which looks and tastes foul coming straight from the tap here). Once through the filter it's nearly sweet as honey and looks fantastic. I've not only been without any ailments but I'm able to drink as much water as I can and that alone is already a bonus. Cleaning the filter has been a must after every use because of the humidity and iron rich water but it's holding up well and is super easy to clean. The indigenous community that I've been working with is equally impressed and we're all excited about the potential of such a device.
That was the first of the tests, I'm now up in the high altitudes of the Andes and giving it another round of tests with the agricultural area and rivers and lakes and well, anything that I can find. It even survived a puppy that decided to try its best to chew the cotton filter to pieces, although damaged the filter still produces clean water and a great flow rate.
This filter far exceeded my expectations and I'm still traveling on here without any issues from the water. Everyone that has come into contact with it is equally amazed at how small and simple it is for what it produces. Well done team.
