Definitely helps reduce intensity of pain.
I have such severe permanent damage to my cervical spine and lumbar spine, so bad that I don't have a problem getting a prescription for pain meds. I simply don't like to use them. I also have lupus which causes pain throughout my body and also complicates my spinal issues. My lupus complicates surgery too. I nearly died during an 8 hour cervical spine surgery 11 years ago because my lupus disease activity accelerates under UV light, so the long complicated surgery under intense light caused my body to shut down. My surgeon is not confident that I can survive another complicated surgery, so instead of gambling with my life on surgery, I made a decision 10 years ago to live with the often excruciating pain that my mangled lumbar spine causes me. I can get pain pills prescribed but I rarely take one because I simply don't want to chance becoming addicted. I manage my pain as best as I can by eating right, and continuing to do physical therapy on my own, and using a variety of oils, analgesics, and other topical creams and solutions advised for various types of pain. Then I happened to read a medical article recently that suggested trying a topical magnesium for severe muscle leg pain. My excruciating leg pain has been my most consistent cause of sleep loss over the last 10 years.
I didn't know before reading that medical page, that topical magnesium even existed. I've taken oral magnesium supplements for 16 years and know it helps with chronic fatigue and headaches. I know it helps with joint and muscle pain, which is why soaking in Epson salt feels so great. But I never knew you could buy a spray on topical magnesium until the day I bought this product about 4 weeks ago. WOW!! OMG!! When I have that deep muscle pain in my thighs that goes down to the bone and it is constant and unrelenting, with muscle knots that feel like gravel. I can spray this product on and lightly rub it for a few seconds to make sure the coverage is good, then relax for 20 - 30 minutes while the magnesium is absorbed. I can literally feel the pain diminish as it is absorbed through the muscle and it is amazing. My pain does not go away 100%, but the severity of pain is substantially deminished, and the number of gravelly muscle knots is substantially lowered. Afterwards I am so much more comfortable that I can enjoy my day so much more and I can sleep through the night without being woken up multiple times by the pain. Same thing with my spine. I am bone on bone at all 5 levels of my lumbar spine. I believe my leg pain is caused by a combination of my spine issues as well as my lupus. I have been doing physical therapy exercises regularly on my own ever since doing formal PT 3 times per week for 10 weeks in 2012. Keeping my core muscles strong is what supports my spine and helps to manage my lumbar pain. However, my spine is so deteriorated at this point that my vertebrae shift forward and backward every time that I raise my left leg or bend at the waist, so I literally can feel and hear my spine shifting all day long. It is a discomfort and an annoyance but if I do too many chores that involve repetitive bending over and straightening, such as putting away groceries; it causes inflammation in the spine from too much spine shifting. Also lupus inflammation from being in light too long causes inflammation throughout my body. When I have too much inflammation and I bend to reach for something and my vertebrae slide, they sometimes get stuck because of the inflammation and cannot get back into place and the spinal nerve is pinched and it goes from being an annoyance to extremely excruciating sharp shooting pain for 6-12 hours until I can get the inflammation down with oral anti-inflammatories and topical anti-inflammatories and lying in the fetal position in a dark room, suffering and waiting for the worst to subside. Now, I can add spraying this magnesium product on my spine and it's like a miracle how much quicker my recovery is from a severe nerve pinch.
My husband is diagnosed with severe Osteoarthritis. He had to have a full hip replacement 2 years ago at age 56 and one knee has moderate damage and the other knee has severe damage. His rheumatologist told him in June that he can expect to have a knee replacement very soon, probably within a year. His knee is twisted and deformed it is so bad. He is a truck driver. He drives 500 -580 miles per night, 4 nights a week. Climbing in and out of his truck is painful and sitting in the same position for hours at a time causes stiffness and his knee is usually swollen by the time he makes his drop. He uses a topical anti-inflammatory cream, the one that used to be prescription and now is over- the- counter, and he takes prescription strength naproxin, but it's not enough. I said let me try this spray and see if it helps your knee like it helps my spine and muscles. So I sprayed it on when he got home from work and his pain deminished within minutes and the swelling went down faster than usual. So using this product became part of his workday recovery routine. Then last week I wondered if it would help PREVENT the swelling and knee pain while he was driving if we sprayed his knees BEFORE he went to work. I sprayed it on his knees and had him relax for 20 minutes before he showered for work. When he got home he said his knees didn't hurt and the bad one wasn't stiff or swollen. So we did it the next day and he had the same results.
We both love this product. We both get amazing results within minutes. Neither of us had any itching from this product but we both take multivitamins regularly so probably did not have such a magnesium depletion that it would cause itching. We will definitely make sure that we always have this product on hand. It truly IS that good.
There are 2 things I don't like about the product. One is mentioned in a lot of reviews. It leaves a strange residue on your skin.... sticky but not syrupy sticky. It's hard to describe really because I cannot think of anything else that leaves this type of residue. All I can say is that I suggest you put a beach towel under you, where ever you plan to sit or lie down after you spray this on. And plan to take a shower 20-30 minutes after using it. You will be more comfortable. The other thing I don't like is not mentioned in other reviews and is an easy work around. It taste horrible! Yuck. We've each used it for migraine relief and it does work for us for headaches. However, we often kiss each other on the forehead, and at different times we each got a bad surprise by the awful taste of the residue this leaves behind. Lol. I reiterate, spray it on, let the magnesium absorb into your skin for 20-30 minutes and then shower off and enjoy NOT being in excruciating pain for a day or 2 until you need to reapply.
