Finally - the best cooling pack, now available in lunch bag size! 12+ hours - test results here.
If like me, you have been waiting for Cooler Shock to release a small-size version of their cooler pack for lunch bags, wait no longer - this is what you need in your life right now. Two months ago after I bought the medium pack (4 Mid Size Cooler Freeze Packs 10"x 9" - No More Ice! Cooler Shock Replaces Ice & Reusable. You Add Water & Save!) and discovered arguably the best cooling pack on Amazon (don't take my word for it, read the reviews over on that product page), I came across a comment left by a Cooler Shock rep that they are working on a small size suitable for lunch packs, and I have been waiting patiently ever since. The medium pack is unparalleled in its performance - after an entire day at the office, I'll come home and my drink is still frozen. The issue that I and many others had was that the medium pack is a tiny bit too large in both dimensions for lunch bags - I had to fold the edges in to get it to fit. Well the solution is finally here. This lunch bag size cooling pack is the best of all worlds: - It uses the same tried-and-true material as other Cooler Shock packs: a phase-change material that can absorb an enormous amount heat without itself warming up. - The screw cap seal is the easiest to set up by far: prepping 4 medium packs with an iron took me almost an hour; by comparison, I had all 5 small packs set up in 10 minutes. - Unless you have a lunch bag for ants, this size will fit all lunch bags. If you can put a typical-sized tupperware in your lunch bag, this cooler pack will fit. - I've used it for a few days now and can confirm 10 hours of cooling. If you work a typical 9 - 5, that's more than enough to keep food at a safe temperature all day long from fridge (morning) to fridge (evening). It won't have the same 24 - 48 hour cooling duration as the medium pack, but that's overkill for lunch bags anyway. The only downside I can think of: - Not ideal for use in ice chests. But that's what the medium and large versions of the Cooler Shock are for anyway. If you have used Cooler Shock's other packs in the past, you know how good they are, and you won't be disappointed in the lunch bag packs. ==EDIT== I've now tested the Cooler Shock in an insulated lunch bag, sitting in a room kept at 70°F, monitored with a thermocouple - see the results in the picture. The ice pack started from the freezer at 4°F, reached 32°F at 10.1 hours, and reached 40°F (the maximum recommended temperature for keeping food refrigerated) after 12.2 hours - corroborating reviews from others reporting the ice packs lasting up to 12 hours.
