Yes it is a heat source. No, that is not a problem come Oregon winter. It is 15 pounds so it doesn't move around while you sleep. Doesn't slip to the floor with your movement in sleep. I wake easy, noisy neighbors, animals, worry over money, life... Since putting this on my bed, I wake but fall back to sleep quicker. I'm sleeping now, I just wasn't. So this blanket is saving lives from this sleep deprived and very grumpy woman. 😊
