Updating 4/8/17: My parents-in-law absolutely love these cups. They've been using them nearly daily since Christmas and they're constantly raving about them. Today they asked me where I got them because they want more. So I came to buy them another set. I don't know if they're treating them more gently than they would normal cups, but if they are treating them extra special and with extra care, they obviously feel it's worth it. I just received these mugs and they are really beautiful. There is conflicting information on the packaging about their durability, however. The outside of the package says, "Crafting from strong borosilicate makes these glasses thinner, lighter, capable of withstanding thermal shock, scratch and break resistant, as well as dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe." That all sounded perfect as I had purchased these as a gift for my elderly parents-in-law and didn't want them to have to worry about them being too delicate. However, when you open the box and look at the inside flap, it seems to contradict the outside information: "Take care when using ice cubes, we suggest pouring your desired liquid prior to adding ice. Avoid using metal utensils... Be gentle with these cups as the glass is thinner than a traditional cup which makes them more fragile." I fear this warning will dissuade them from using them with their daily tea (especially due to the "no metal utensils" warning), which was the purpose of my gift. How durable they are in practice remains to be seen. However, I may never truly get that answer because they may put them on a shelf and rarely touch them if they think they are too fragile.
