I love this stupid thing.
I vacillated over buying it for months. I love baths, and I have a shower only. But will this cheesy-looking thing work? Is it sturdy enough to even hold the water? (Yeah, I know that sounds stupid, but I've been burned before. I try to take nothing for granted.) Will it snag on something and spout a hole in a month? Then I just took the plunge (sorry about the pun).
When I first propped it up in my walk-in shower, I felt so stupid. Buyer's remorse on steroids: I just bought a kiddie pool for myself... geez what a fool. And then I filled it up and sat down. First thought: I'm in love. I'm 5'5", and small (not tiny) framed. There's lots of room: I don't have to cross my legs when I sit, and if I chose I could fill the water well over my head. This is a SOAKING tub, not really a BATHING one; you can't stretch out your legs to shave them, and it's not easy to dunk your head to get your hair wet. (Full disclosure, I sometimes do both, but it takes some contorting.)
I don't understand why (scientists want to respond?), but it holds the water's heat for a long time. An HOUR after I've drawn my bath, the water is still *hot.* I have no idea why, but I love that about it. Even my husband, who hates baths, will sit in it sometimes on tough gym days. Epson salt for the muscles, and it's off to sleep in a snap!
It is sturdy. The plastic is very thick. The design is basic: just flexible plastic with inserts for PVC pipes that hold it up, and an inflatable ring which helps the sides stay erect while you're filling it up. After trial-and-error, I've learned to position it close to the tub spout, leave the rim uninflated while filling it, and push the plastic under the bath spout. After it's full, I move the plastic out from under the spout and inflate the rim. Then the bath spout touches the outside of the plastic, so I just drape a towel over the spout (so it doesn't scratch the plastic - that might not be necessary.) I think I'm going to buy a plastic faucet extender (Prince Lionheart Faucet Extender is what I found on Amazon) to solve this tiny issue.
I will say, though, that I *don't* love it when it's not in use, though, because it's big and wet and baby blue - not exactly easy to stash in my bathroom. But I'll figure something out.
Short answer: buy it. If you're looking, it's because you 'need' it. It'll work, and you'll love it - after you do your own work-arounds.
