I was hesitant about buying this because of the reviews I kept reading with complaints of the noise. I honestly kept expecting a jet engine. The noise isn't so bad, it's about as noisy as a desk fan. I can only assume those people with noise complaints must have bionic hearing, because I have above average hearing and a low attention span, but can easily ignore this. The real cherry on top, and reason I was compelled to purchase, however is that it works wonders to eliminate odors. I have no idea how a cat, with normal cat sized poops, can generate a smell that rivals that of an elephant. I've tried different foods, and while I've finally found brands that don't make it smell like death, it's still rather putrid. The cat's litter box is in the master bathroom. I can be in the kitchen, on the complete opposite side of my house (2400 sq ft) and clearly tell when he's dropped brown nuggets. Before adopting this cat-hole, the biggest source of weird smells at home was my three dogs. They smell heavenly compared to this cat's bowel movements. I have this little miracle worker plugged in right above his turd box and no more smells - aside from when I'm squatted down, cleaning the box out. It's odd, the air in the master bathroom feels fresher and cleaner than the rest of the house, even though the cat and I have our thrones in the same small room.
