Will never travel without this again - Amazing!
I had shopped for a good way to add additional storage for my family on trips and this device came up. Frankly, the claims seemed a little too good, but some positive reviews convinced me to try. I am SO glad I did
Function Summary:
1. Battery Backup - works as described. The battery will charge two devices simultaneously, limited only by the HooToo's internal battery. No, this isn't a massive 20,000mAh tablet sized block, it won't charge your iPad 4 times. What it will do is give you that top-off on your iPhone when you forget to plug it in over night.
2. AC Charger - Great! It's nice to not have to bring an AC-USB block for each of my devices, as well as a separate one to charge my battery back-up. The convenience of having this together is wonderful.
3. Wireless Router - Works Perfectly. We stayed at a lake house rental and the owner had set their wireless to a max of 5 simultaneous connections. We simply plugged this into a wired port on their router and now everyone could be online at once. I also tested at a hotel with "Guest Authentication", I was able to authenticate the router as a device and then connect my other devices to it (Including my Chromecast) to set up a home-away-from-home WIFI.
4. NAS Sever - Plugged a 64gb MicroSD Card in through a tiny USB adapter and I was able to stream two separate HD movies and some MP3s simultaneously on a flight. We watched movies from Seattle to Boston and had used approximately 50% of the onboard battery. Perfect. Download the app and follow the directions, it couldn't be easier.
UPDATE 8/20/14
The device is still working flawlessly, battery holding strong, and no issues with file streaming.
I wanted to add a quick pointer for people staying in hotels. First, be sure to connect your TripMate to their wired internet whenever you can. In a recent Holiday Inn Express it was the difference between 0.9mb/s and 11.5mb/s!
Second, when you are trying to authorize the TripMate device (once per 24hours usually) sometimes your mobile device will refuse to find the authorization page. The easy fix is to connect to the hotel WiFi directly and open the authorization page on your mobile. Then connect back to the TripMate and refresh the Authorization Page. This will force the TripMate ID to authorize and should get you connected to the internet again.
Hope that helps someone.
