Pros and Cons from a CPST!
Let me start off by saying that I am a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. I have installed many car seats in many different cars, and I really love this seat. Here's why...
PROS:
-Ease of installation. This car seat is very lightweight and, in my experience, lighter seats are much easier to install correctly. You are able to press down on it easily as you tighten. Bulkier car seats, especially those with thick, heavy bases, are more difficult to install and take a little bit more time/energy
-Lightweight. For obvious reason. It's easy to move from car to car and excellent to travel with.
-Height/weight limits. This is a convertible seat, which means it can rear face and forward face. This seat rear faces to 40 lbs & 40 inches (the size of an average 4-year-old. The American Association of Pediatrics recommends rear facing until at least 2 years of age, but as close to 4 as possible. It is also now illegal in some states to forward face a child before 2. To add to that, this seat has a forward facing limit of 65 lbs and 54 inches - if I remember correctly it has the highest forward facing limits for a convertible seat. This seat is WONDERFUL if you have an abnormally tall child (like me).
-Price. This is a seat most people can use for its entire 6-year lifespan. Of course, every child is different, so that may not be true for everyone, but it's definitely a good investment. Typically under $100
-High lower anchor limits. If you're like me, you like to install with lower anchors. They're no safer than seatbelt installs, but I am just better at installing that way, so, in that case, it probably is safer. Most seats have a 45 lbs lower anchor weight limit, this seat has a 55 lb limit.
-Comfortable. This seat is very roomy, both rear and forward facing it is comfortable.
I took a star off for two things I wish Evenflo would upgrade on this seat...
-Harness straps set close together. This is frustrating because not only does this seat not come with harness strap covers (you can purchase them through Evenflo, but definitely cannot use an aftermarket product that hasn't been tested with the seat), but they are set very close together. It's okay in the cold month because there is typically fabric there to protect little necks. But, in the summer my 4-year-old comes out of her seat with red marks on her neck. If this really bothers you, contact Evenflo and order a set that is made for this specific seat.
-Harness adjustment. Because the way this harness is designed, you can loosen one strap while the other remains tightened. This makes it difficult to keep the straps at the same length for safe buckling. After you do it a bunch of times, it becomes easier. But, it is slightly annoying.
Those last 2 things are not deal breaks. This seat is great! We have one as a spare and one as the main seat in one of our vehicles, and I it works very well for us! I've attached 2 photos. One is my LO rear facing in the SureRide and the other is more recent of her forward facing in it.
