I love this thing. Ok, it is not perfect, but after throwing out my own failed design I realize how great this one actually is. I have a French Bulldog/Pug mix, she is 29 LBs, I bought the Large and it was definitely the right size for her. She's a smaller dog, but she really likes having a smidge more room, and it's really not as large as it sounds. The grass is not a thick super substantial grass, however, the thick super substantial ones hold far more smell and do not drain nearly as well as this grass. This is grass is perfect for the application, it drains very nicely. Now for my cleaning tips. We pick up poop with toilet paper and flush it. I empty the drain pain and flush it every night, and rinse it. Some days I forget, you could likely empty every few days if your dog doesn't have an enormous bladder. I have a hydrogen peroxide spray bottle and I spray the grass probably once a week, I use about half a bottle but that is likely more than it needs. I let the peroxide sit for 10 minutes and then I pour hot water over it, emptying the drip pan as needed (you really don't want to overflow it), and voila, no smell. If this was helpful please hit the button I just want to update. I think I know why some have an issue with this. Now that my dog has grown larger and she pees at a higher volume it does emit a bit of smell. I think if you have a dog around 20 LBs or less then this is amazing, much more than that and the smell is a bit unavoidable.
