In testing this thermometer, the Femometer and the Lamiga this one came in first when testing four people three times and comparing against three oral thermometers. It does make two small beeps when it gets its reading and I haven't looked to see if that can be turned off. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is there is still a deviation from the oral thermometers, but to be fair the oral thermometers can have a deviation as well. This one seems to stay the closest to the mean however. The Femometer came in second, but it has no backlight so trying to test a kid or family member in a dark room can be challenging. You have to run out to the hall to see the reading. For me that was a deal breaker. The Lamiga has a backlight like this one. It does make a loud beep that will wake up a kid at night, but it can be disabled. Unfortunately it had the most deviation from the oral thermometers and came in third. I hope this helps someone else.
