Works as Expected
As COMCAST has upped the cable modem rental fee over time and is now up to $14 MRC, I decided that it was time to just buy one outright. Currently COMCAST only supports 2 modems for 1G cable service with VOICE -> this one (ARRIS T25) and the NETGEAR CM1150V. I chose the ARRIS as it is the newer of the two in design. The ARRIS is a PUMA 7 chipset vs PUMA 6 for the NETGEAR, also the ARRIS is capable of a higher top service tier (10G) vs the NETGEAR (2G) -> granted it is a tier that doesn't exist @ COMCAST yet, but it seems to be more future proofed for future service. Nobody wants to eat $200 up front for a cable modem, but I have been renting COMCAST's branded cable modem for just over 40 months straight now -> that's over $580 at today's rates. Warning: This device has two MAC addresses attached to the modem -> one for the IP service / "the internet" (HFC-MAC) and one for the phone service (MTA-MAC). If you place the wrong MAC into the activation or if the person on the other end of the phone with COMCAST does remotely -> you will have a difficult and frustrating afternoon. I had several issues that were unrelated to the device and all related to the initial COMCAST support person, but was able to get it resolved eventually. I take my case as a one off, but once installed and activated I have NOT had any issues -> speed tests have been spot on.
