The purpose of masks for the public is to help limit asymptomatic people spreading the disease. The masks don't effectively keep us safe. In fact isolated mask use is more of a risk factor than a benefit in the public because of improper handling and adjustments....so this mask fails as a Coronavirus mask because of the two large exhaust vents front and center which do next to nothing to keep a sick person from spreading the virus. As a dust mast, I put it to the ultimate test using a backpack leaf blower in a dusty, pollen filled environment. Literally everything was coated in a fine green tent from pollen. The dust was so thick I was getting shocked by severe static from the leaf blower. I had absolutely no issues with inhaling dust whatsoever. However when I cleaned up an area of leaves that had mildewed I did briefly and mostly slightly smelled the mildew. So this is excellent as a reusable dust mask and probably as allergy protection, but it is definitely not an N95 when it comes to viruses, odors, and aerosols. For the virus, it definitely doesn't protect others from you and it is very unlikely it protects you from others. A final note, by the time I have this fit firmly it becomes quite uncomfortable within the hour. I have a larger face than average possibly. One size fits all hats often don't fit me. So most people may not experience the discomfort I do. Even so, I still think I will be glad I have it and will find it useful.
