While these sheets are 1000 thread count, I was expecting a bit thicker sheet, as this sheet set was replacing another set of beloved and old 1000 thread count sheets, where the fitted sheet finally just wore out and could no longer be mended, that were thicker; it really all depends on the thickness of the threads used that make up that thread count, (a fabric weight would also be a good descriptive to add). With that said, I washed the new sheets when they arrived, (not a fan of sleeping on the sizing put into cotton fabrics to make them look pretty in stores and in packaging), and put them on the bed directly from the dryer and love them. Even though not as thick as the old sheets, they are still well made, very good quality cotton and smooth once on the bed. My mother would have ironed the sheets, (100% cotton wrinkles, that is its nature) I did not because I'm not a nut. Note that I'm a professional quilter and know a great about the quality and treatment of cotton fabrics...the sheet fabric is quality fabric. I washed and dried on the next higher setting than noted on the washing instructions and used fabric softener as well.
