"poop" 💩 smell from packaging
Ok, so I know the headline is a bit strange. Let me clear that up for anyone wondering... I have not seen this mentioned in any other reviews. But my first impression of these sheets, unfortunately, was the god awful smell I was introduced with when unzipping them from their package to throw in the wash (and boy, did they need it! 😬). I was met with a very strong odor of what smelled like poop. Diahrreah, if you want specifics, is what it smelled like. The sheets were absolutely pristine. No odd stains (brown, or otherwise. Thank god.), so I can only assume that this smell could be attributed to the cardboard used to separate the flat and fitted sheet in the package. You know how some cardboards can smell a bit.. gross? This cardboard must have been made from used toilet paper (god, I hope not!). Anyway. I had to wash the sheets twice to get the smell completely out. After the first wash, they mostly smelled clean and fresh like my detergent, but after sitting and airing out for a while, there were still a couple spots where the smell still lingered faintly. So I washed them again. I am happy to say, no more poop smell! But this is why my rating is 4 stars.
First impressions: I got these sheets in King in the "Sea Foam" color. Although, on one of the listed pictures of them, it says "teal". I would say they are closer to Sea Foam, but a couple shades darker. I have my camera on flash in the photos, which makes them appear a tiny bit more vibrant than they are. They are a bit more muted than that.
As far as durability goes: I rated them a 4 for now. I just got them today and they haven't even been slept in, yet. But upon first impression they seem that they will stand the test of time. Or at least longer than a few months. Which is about how long all of the cheap microfiber sheet sets you can find all over amazon have lasted us. I got these sheets because we have gone through several cheap sets of the microfiber sheets, and I wanted to find a "real" sheet set. Like the type you would sleep in at a hotel. Something with some thickness to it, that you can't see your hand through. These seem to fit the bill. We have an 80lb pit mix that INSISTS on sleeping under the covers like some small breeds like to do, and night after night of him stretching out/repositioning througout the night have turned countless of those cheap sheet sets into shreds in a matter of months. They look like they have been on Freddy Kreugers bed. These sheets have a good thickness to them and feel far more durable and premium than the price would suggest.
As far as comfort: As I said, they haven't been slept on yet. But my first impression is that they are pretty close to what you would find on 3 or 4 star hotel bed. They are more "crisp" than luxuriously soft. But they are not scratchy like a sheet set you would get from a cheap "bed-in-a-bag" set, either. They are smooth, crisp, and almost cool to the touch. They definitely DO wrinkle, though. They are a mess. But I will take that any day for the thickness and premium feel, over a cheaper, lower quality set.
These sheets are definitely "deep pocket". As you can see, our mattress is pretty deep (I think 14"?), and the fit is great. Snug all the way around, and still some excess elastic on the bottom to tuck underneath the mattress.
All in all. Without having slept on them yet, and aside from the smelly packaging, I am very satisfied with the purchase. We will see how these hold up. Fingers crossed it will be better than our cheapo microfiber sets in the past! But I CAN say that these sheets look and feel to be great quality for the price. I wouldn't go as far as egyption cotton, but I have seen and felt sheets at Bed Bath and Beyond and other stores that were either about the same feel/quality, or worse than these, for double the price.
Hope this helps anyone thinking of buying! You should! 👍👌
