If you've made it to this product, you are probably dealing with a difficult pet behavior problem. I was very hesitant to go this route because I don't like the idea of shocking my dogs. I know - everyone says it's a little shock - but it was still very hard for me to accept the idea of even a little one. I had all the irrational thoughts about dog torture swimming in my head. It turns out, it is indeed like a strong static shock, not really torture. It isn't continuous either (waits 3 seconds between each burst). There are thousands of reviews here so I am not going to go into all the details again. It's basically plastic mat that you can lay out on your couch. I found the full size one to be a few inches short of the length of my couch but it still works. We tried the couch cover route but it was incredibly inconvenient. That doesn't really matter - you'll see how that worked out in the video. For my dogs, the ScatMat took just one day to work on the medium setting. It is a minor inconvenience to keep putting on and taking off these mats but it's a lot easier than the couch covers we bought, that were ultimately destroyed. I did notice that all of the featured reviewer's videos were of cats so... here are some dogs! Not only that, I will share what pushed the dog lover in me to using a shock mat. I think you'll agree, something needed to be done and locking them up in a crate for 8 hours wasn't an option. So, I share the painful images of my couch being gutted in the hopes it saves just one dog from a life in the crate (or worse). I caution you - if you are sensitive to images of furniture guts, don't watch.
