The Sony DVPSR210P is a good DVD player, which misses a few buttons, does not impress with the menus, and slowly turns on/closes/loads, though it surpasses the competitors especially in the fast/slow forward/backward capability. The RMT-D197A remote control has the buttons well spaced out considering normal finger thickness of the average men in USA or Europe. Though small, the 8-digit display shows the time (hr:min:sec) of already seen or remaining part of the title or the chapter. Unfortunately, those times cannot be permanently displayed alone on the screen in a corner, but only for a moment or as a part of the big menu covering almost entire screen. The remote control is ergonomic, but its direct functions fell short of those of the Toshiba SD7300. It lacks a button for zooming, which is available only through the second step screen menu. The two tier menu is far inferior to those by Toshiba. However, it automatically (without any input from the user) remembers the place of ending watching not only on the disk after pausing/stopping, but on the last 6 disks removed as well. Also, the motor stops after pausing and does not wear out by rotating nonstop, as in the cheap Toshiba SD4300, which additionally does not remember the place of watching 20 minutes after the disk was stopped.
