As a private practice anesthesiologist, I’m responsible for airway management of COVID19 patients in my hospital’s ICU, OR and sometimes the ER. We have run critically short on N95 paper masks so several of us got these and adapted the circular intake/output vent to mount a viral breathing circuit filter. We had an engineer 3D print a custom adapter but I found PVC pipe diameter reducers (uxcell 32–>25mm PVC Reducing Coupling Hub) on Amazon which worked well with Teflon pipe tape. Anesthesia breathing circuit filters like the Vyaire HMEF750 fit perfectly. The mask system works well. The seal is tight and can be verified by occluding the vent port and trying to inhale or exhale (almost impossible). Size-wise, I always wore an XL helmet back in the days I rode a motorcycle and this fits my large cranium well. It isn’t as comfy as a PAPR but our supply of those devices is low enough I can’t count on having one when on duty. Breathing is about as cumbersome as it is with a paper N95 mask. I have not had fogging issues. I must take off my glasses with this on but that is the most objective negative to the system.
