Lacking in substance
First I must give a bit of a disclosure regarding my point of view. I am in my late 40's, middle aged mother and wife. I am a book hound and during the cold winter months in Minnesota, I endulge my reading passion. I am well read, which isn't a boast but rather just a simple fact.I read everything, from the romance classics (Bronte, Austin), to High Fantasy and Thrillers, literary classics like Victor Hugo, Dickens etc..to low brow pulp fiction for a fun and uncomplicated summer beach read. I gave this book a whirl, skimming over all the rave reviews, thought to myself "what the heck" I'll give it a shot. I have enjoyed young adult books from time to time, as a well written book is a well written book regardless of the age of it's target audience. I have to say I am very dissapointed, it is as if the book was written by a young girl with a young girls fantasy of a perfect yet imperfect man. Over and over the author keeps telling us how exceptionally good looking the main male character Trace is and how the main female character, Ember, has really no idea why every male is drawn to her. These characters were so shallow and superficial, and the prose was very tedious, redundant and rather juvenile. I would tell the author of this book keep trying, don't give up, it is awesome you are out there trying. I would tell well read readers over the age of 30, take the the rave reiews with a big grain of salt, upon reading them(the reviews) in more detail, I would have seen one reviewer say Trace was her new "book boyfriend" ...lol. If I had read them in detail I would have avoided this book.
