This surge protector was only 4 months old when it failed our year old tv. Within minutes of the power surge I smelled a smell of burning electrical wires and realized it was coming from our tv. The tv was no longer operable along with our sound bar. I jumped through the extensive hoops set out by Tripp Lite and had to spend $12 to send my surge protector to them for testing. Surprise! They tested the surge protector and said they would not honor their warranty because the surge protector didn't show signs of a surge. I even had documentation from our electric company verifying there had been an outage and subsequent surge just minutes before the smell of burning wires. Tripp Lite does not test the surge protector with an objective 3rd party. The testing was done 'in-house' so of course they are going to find that the surge protector didn't fail. I wanted to share my experience with this company so that others can make an informed decision. All of the surge protectors in our home were Tripp Lite because I thought I could trust them. Now I will have the added expense of replacing them all. They did not stand behind their product and I'm out almost $800. A quick google search shows that this has happened to others. Each person's experience with the warranty/claim process was exactly like mine. The customer sent in the surge protector (as requested by Tripp Lite) and no 'problem' was found and therefore no warranty was honored.
