So Disappointed & Frustrated
**UPDATE**
After using this a couple months, though I hate to, I'm downgrading my review.
I haven't adjusted, and I haven't come to like it.
1. Battery life. Far from being weeks. My 5th Gen I could charge up before a long weekend trip, spend 5 hours in airports and flights, read a little during the next few days and then another 5 coming home, and not be concerned with recharging. Not this one. Better have a charger.
2. The screen is dark and dingy unless you're in bright light. Better sit by a window, and if it's overcast - a light. Average room light? Not bright enough with enough contrast to really read comfortably. Lay in bed and read? With my 5th, I could read reasonably well just by being a by the light, this one not so much. Not even going to happen in the nice, warm tub with the clip on....unlike my 5th Gen - one of the most relaxing things to do.
3. The casing is plastic, and not rubberized like my 5th was. Kind of slips.
Yes, I'm aware this is not the back lit paperwhite, but I do have the 5th Gen experience to compare it to. I bought this as a side to side purchase. Reading on the Tablet was a battery bleeder and distracting with everything else on it. Additionally, the glare when outside made it impossible. I couldn't wait to replace my Kindle - to have the ability back to read anywhere. Unfortunately, like someone else noted, it's actually discouraging reading since it's not a comfortable read in anything but good light. And by pount of compatison, it's nothing like real paper in a book.
Unfortunately, due to it's proprietary format, Amazon has us over a barrel. Amazon, have a little customer care and make this something we can enjoy. Being the same price as the 5th was, it's less quality.
Truthfully, if I could return it now, I would. It isn't much use when I can't enjoy reading with it.
Sadly, the ratings seem to be reflecting frustration.
I had a Kindle 5th generation. Loved it. Could take it anywhere easily, battery life was great, could access any of my wish lists (my lists are separated by genre/subject), buy and download quickly. If it wasn't very handy for notations it was OK. Then it fell and the screen ink, well did whatever..it was unreadable.
So I bought this. I'm not as happy. I cannot access my lists, just one list of books that appear to pull from all of them, so I have to scroll through. Navigation seems a bit cumbersome, but that may be something to just adjust to.
The screen seems like it's a darker background than my previous giving less contrast and more strain reading.
Page turning...is distracting. The page seems to hesitate, then the words/letters seem to waver and break apart before turning. My last one was a nice clean turn, this seems 'dirty'. This might be the break point. Is anyone else seeing this? Is it just the one I have? It's aggravating..
