Good idea but needs improvement.
The idea is good however the designer did not take into consideration that a hot compost pile would be used which requires the weekly turning of the pile. We purchased the add-on bin specifically because we would be turning the compost once per week from one bin into the other and thought that it would be easy to remove the boards from the front of one bin to the other in order to maintain the same fill level. You cannot remove the front boards (or any of the boards) once they are in place because wood swells when it is wet. We had to design a swinging front gate that was the full height of the bins that was connected to the center post in order to contain the compost in the adjacent bin whe we turned the pile into it. We used standard gate tee hinges connected to the center post between the 2 bins that allowed the gate to swing across and close either bin. We then added to each side of the top inside corner of the gate, a hook and eye so that the gate could remain closed once you swung it to the other bin in order to fill and contain the compost. It took a bit of ingenuity and engineering to make and secure the gate, something that should be offered as an accessory from the manufacturer in the first place. Now that we have installed the front gate, the bins do exactly what we wanted them to do.
