Sadly, I found the Kindle touch to be a step backwards. I was upgrading from the Kindle with Keyboard, and found the following of the Kindle Touch. - Contrast of the Kindle Touch is clearly lower than previous models, more grey than black. It's not unreadable but it makes me question, why pay more for something harder to read. As others have pointed out, you need to make the font size larger to compensate, but again, why should I have to, just make the text darker! - I see clear fading between pages. If i highlighted a book from the main screen, I see a big black bar behind the text for the next 3 pages. They offer "refresh with every new page" which helps, but its still very noticeable. My guess is, in an effort for faster screen changes they accepted more fading. Again, here the previous Kindle with Keyboard has much less fading. - The home screen on the older model held more titles, the new one will take longer to scroll through - Touch is fine, but not great. I've found its faster to get around using the keyboard. For example, to move chapters you can use the small square button, i dont see any option for this on the Touch, which means - I've found it sometimes helps to have a finger or two on the screen while reading, i was curious if the build of the Kindle Touch made this not necessary, but sadly no. So now it turns pages so it limits how you can hold it a bit more - I also really dislike how the screen is recessed. I know this is to enable the touchscreen and avoid accidental clicking, but it no longer looks like a book and it casts a small shadow on the page, just doesnt look as nice as a completely flat earlier model. * Overall the screen kills it for me and I'm returning it. I would hope for sharper/deeper blacks not grey fading text.
