I will start off by saying I love the Natural Dog Company. I love their topical products. HOWEVER...be aware that the hip/joint supplement does contain Turmeric. I should have done my research about this particular ingredient and possible side effects in my pet. I had a false sense of security about this product; that since these are all natural that they would be ok to give my dog. I’m sure it’s safe in most dogs, however- Turmeric should not be given to a dog with a history of bleeding issues. The package should contain a warning for this. My dog had an upper GI bleed several years ago. I didn’t think anything of it...I gave him a whole container of these - at the recommended daily dosage for his weight: two per day...and even half of another container...He was getting weaker and weaker over time. Then he began to have black tarry stools again. I discontinued these at the direction of my vet when I told him the ingredients. My dog is still having to get labs drawn. His blood count has gotten so low that he is so weak now that since about three weeks ago he is no longer walking without the use of an assistive harness. The weakness caused by this anemia is also causing him to aspirate - due to the weakness in the muscles associated with swallowing. If Natural Dog Company happens to read this - please put a warning label on this that it shouldn’t be given to dogs with a history of bleeding issues. I may lose my dog over this, and I only wrote this because I do not want this to happen to anyone else.
