Minimal at best..
Minimal at best..... It gets one star because it actually functions as an answering machine, but not acceptably as a telephone. I needed a replacement for my old landline answering machine, which had finally died after many years of faithful service. I chose the AT&T CL4940 because it seemed to meet the need and included a phone, which would have gotten something off of my cluttered desk. Well, it does not filter out line noise (common in very cheap phones) and it made my Plantronics headset completely unusable. I ended up keeping my decades-old GE desk phone (which accommodates the Plantronics headset just fine). For those "old school" folks among us, line noise is fairly common with POTS (plain old telephone service) and is easily filtered out. They've been doing it for almost a hundred years. It's just sad that well-known companies are willing to sell such cheap stuff when designing out the line filter probably cost more than just leaving it in there. Shaking my head.... (and, remember, land lines will still work when the power goes out and the cell towers are useless.)
