Reliable and practical. Well designed product.
May 2017 - One Year Update
..
I always thought Liberty Garden Products was a good brand.
..
Then one year later after I purchased their very expensive $113 (now $83), it began to corrode and oxidize. See attached pics.
..
As they suggested, I did apply a clear coat of paint to the tan chassis before I used it. However, I should have applied a clear coat to everything else, including the wheel hub, nuts and bolts, and wheel rods.
..
I am disappointed at the poor quality metals that used from the chassis to the rusting nuts and bolts because this is a well designed unit. This is the best hose reel car I ever used!
..
I am disappointed at the management at Liberty Garden Products. I can see their Purchasing Dept. beaming with pride having sourced an inexpensive hose reel in China to sell in the USA for a huge markup. Instead, they should have thinking about the longer term harm to "Liberty Garden Products" as a reliable name brand.
..
I do plan to buy another unit for the front yard. Why? It is a very well designed unit and the most functional hose reeler I have used to-date. It's a joy to use.
However, I will clear coat everything twice before I put it together. Instead of using their nuts and bolts, I'll go down to my local Ace Hardware and buy new bolts that won't rust. I will also clear coat the wheel rods.

This unit is practical and works very well. The four wheel mobility is very helpful. It allows me to position the hose reel in the direction I am pulling from.
I read the reviews that said the hose was difficult to organize as you're reeling it in. I am puzzled. On the contrary, as you can see from the pics, it is very easy to organize. Just keep the water on. I use my left land to guide the hose onto the reel and my right hand to crank the wheel. The large crank makes it easy to reel in. The reel handle rotates which allows me to keep a firm grip on the handle.
The manual said owners apply a clear coat of paint each year to keep the rust off. After all, scratches are inevitable. I decided to give it a clear coat now. One of the axle had threads that were partially stripped. I called their 800 number. I received the replacement axle in 7 days.
I mounted two 5/8 inch hoses. The first one is 75 feet. The 2nd is 50 feet. I use a velcro red tie where the 2nd hose begins. This keeps the 1st hose in place. The first hose gives the unit a nice weight and makes it more stable when you are unwinding the hose. I rarely use more than 50 feet.
